For online stores and marketplace sellers

Selling online? The platforms already report to the tax office.

Etsy, Amazon, eBay and the other platforms send Latvia's State Revenue Service (VID) your sales data once a year (DAC7). The question is no longer «will they find out» — it's whether your books match. Vadi keeps them straight: income by channel, stock purchases as expenses, declarations ready.

  • Income from multiple channels — marketplaces, your own store, craft fairs
  • Stock, packaging and shipping as expenses — a lower tax bill
  • The €50,000 VAT threshold monitored — Vadi warns you in time

What an online seller needs to know about taxes

1

The platforms report on you

Since 2023, EU platforms (Etsy, Amazon, eBay, Vinted and others) report sellers' turnover to the tax authorities under DAC7. Regular selling is economic activity — it must be registered with VID.

2

Cost of goods is your biggest expense

Under the general regime tax is calculated on profit: stock and material purchases, packaging, shipping, platform fees — all deductible. Under MUN you pay 25% of the entire turnover.

3

VAT and cross-border sales

VAT registration is required at €50,000 turnover over 12 months; selling to consumers in other EU countries triggers a special procedure (OSS) from €10,000 a year. Vadi tracks your turnover and warns you.

What Vadi does for you

You sell and ship — Vadi does the tax maths in the background.

All channels in one set of books

Marketplace payouts, orders from your own store, craft fairs — record income by channel or import a bank statement and payments match themselves.

Stock and fees as expenses

Supplier invoices, packaging, postage, platform fees — drop in an invoice or snap a receipt, the fields fill in and your tax goes down.

VAT threshold watchdog

Vadi tracks your 12-month turnover and warns you before €50,000. Foreign platform fees under reverse-charge VAT are recognised and shown correctly too.

Contributions & annual return

The quarterly social-contribution (VSAOI) report and the annual income declaration (D3) — computed from your records, ready to file in EDS. The calendar reminds you of deadlines.

MUN or the general regime

In trade, with real cost of goods, the general regime almost always beats MUN. Compare both in the calculator with your own numbers.

Frequently asked questions

I sell on Etsy / Amazon / eBay — does the Latvian tax office know?

Yes. Under the DAC7 directive, EU platforms report sellers' transactions and turnover to the tax authorities once a year. If your selling is regular, it's economic activity that must be registered with VID and the income declared — though a one-off sale of personal belongings doesn't trigger tax.

What taxes does an online store owner pay?

Under the general regime: social contributions (VSAOI) of 31.07% on a chosen base (at least the minimum wage of €780 if your monthly income reaches it) plus 10% for pension insurance on the excess, and in the annual declaration personal income tax (IIN) of 25.5% on profit. The alternative is the micro-enterprise tax (MUN) of 25% of turnover — but with no cost-of-goods deduction it rarely pays off in trade.

When do I have to register for VAT?

When your transactions total €50,000 over 12 months. Selling to consumers in other EU countries, the destination country's VAT applies from just €10,000 a year (usually via the OSS scheme) — we recommend confirming that procedure with VID. Vadi tracks your turnover and warns you in time.

Do stock purchases and shipping lower my tax?

Under the general regime, yes: stock and material purchases, packaging, postage and courier costs, and platform fees are business expenses deducted from income. That's why in trade the general regime is almost always better than MUN.

How much does Vadi cost for an online seller?

From €9/month (incl. VAT) — income and expense tracking, VSAOI and income-tax calculations, the annual declaration and the tax calendar. The first 7 days are free and no card is required. Bank-statement import and receipt scanning are on the Pro plan.

Vadi isn't only for e-commerce. The same system works for every self-employed person and company in Latvia.
