Frequently asked questions

How is take-home pay calculated in 2026?

From the gross salary you subtract the employee's social contributions (VSAOI) of 10.5%, then — if the payroll tax book has been submitted — the non-taxable minimum of €550 and reliefs (€250 per dependant, etc.). Personal income tax is withheld from the remainder: 25.5% up to €8,775 a month and 33% above that. What is left is the net take-home salary.

What does the payroll tax book change?

The non-taxable minimum and reliefs are applied only where the tax book has been submitted. Without it, tax is withheld from the whole amount after social contributions — the overpayment can be reclaimed by filing the annual income declaration.

What does the employee cost the employer in total?

Gross salary + the employer's social contributions (VSAOI) of 23.59% + the €0.36 business-risk fee. At €1,500 gross that is about €1,854 a month.
