What a beauty professional needs to know about taxes

1

Register your economic activity with VID

Services for a fee — even at a client's home or from a rented chair — are economic activity. Registration with the tax office (VID) is free, online via EDS; you can choose the general regime or the micro-enterprise tax (MUN).

2

Supplies and rent are your expenses

Colour, polish, single-use supplies, chair or room rent, tools and their upkeep — under the general regime all of it reduces your taxable income. Keep those receipts!

3

Every euro of income must be recorded

Cash, card terminal, bank transfer — in VID's eyes it's all income, and it all belongs in your books. Clean records are what protect you if an inspection comes.

What Vadi does for you

You work with clients — Vadi does the tax maths in the background.

Daily takings in a couple of taps

Enter the day's or week's total — cash and card separately. See your monthly total and profit at any moment.

Scan receipts with your phone

Snap a photo of a supplies or rent receipt — the amount, date and supplier fill in by themselves. Under the general regime every expense lowers your tax.

Contributions & annual return

The quarterly social-contribution (VSAOI) report and the annual income declaration (D3) — computed from your records, ready to file in EDS. The calendar reminds you of deadlines.

Everything from your phone

Between clients, enter your takings or scan a receipt — no computer needed. Vadi runs in the browser on any device.

MUN or the general regime

If you spend a lot on supplies and rent, the general regime is usually cheaper; if your expenses are low, MUN is simpler. Compare in the calculator with your own numbers.

Frequently asked questions

What taxes does a self-employed hairdresser or nail tech pay?

Under the general regime: social contributions (VSAOI) of 31.07% on a chosen base (at least the minimum wage of €780 if your monthly income reaches it) plus 10% for pension insurance on the excess, and in the annual declaration personal income tax (IIN) of 25.5% on profit after deducting paid VSAOI. The alternative is the micro-enterprise tax (MUN) of 25% of turnover with no expense deduction.

Do chair rent and supplies lower my tax?

Yes — under the general regime business expenses (chair or room rent, colour, polish, single-use supplies, tools) are deducted from income, and you pay tax only on the difference. Under MUN expenses can't be deducted.

I get paid both in cash and by card — how do I record that?

Vadi can record income by payment method — cash and bank separately, and a bank statement can be imported from a file. The core principle: all income must be declared regardless of how it was paid.

MUN or the general regime — which is better in beauty?

If supplies and rent eat a third or more of your income, the general regime with expense deduction usually works out cheaper. If you work with minimal expenses, MUN is simpler. Compare both in our calculator with your own numbers.
